I need to scarify my lawn - I see 2nd hand electric jobbies for about £10-£20 or so - I've also found a 16" scarifying blade that I could put on my petrol mower for about a tenner - what would be the best way to go?

Cheers.

Have a Qualcast Suffolk Punch petrol mower which also has the Scarifier cassette, which I fine much better, compare to an inferior electric version.

It's amazing how much thatch & other debris is removed from the lawn.

I picked up an electric lawn rake for £10 the other week - I had been looking for a rake/scarifier but this was too much of a bargain to pass up - and have to say it is pretty amazing how much it picks up without seemingly affecting the lawn, so much rubbish hiding in amongst the grass (and clover :().

Looking forward to giving it a go once I've put down some decent feed and weed stuff a bit later in the year.

Been looking at these recently too, although there's nothing on eBay in my area at the moment.

There seems to be a very highly thought of budget one via Screwfix, the Titan offering. All the other electric ones I've looked at seem to get slated pretty badly.

THose blades you put on your lawnmower are a waste of time...they just dont work.....I bought one.

I was give a 15 year old lawn rake.....does great job.

Don't scarify at this time of year though. It is too hot (unless you're watering your lawn constantly) and all you're doing is creating new gaps in a thinner lawn for all those lovely seeds from dandelions and other seeds to take root..!

Well, on my Qualcast petrol mower using the Scarifier cassette, give excellent results.

First pass I set it for a light scarifier, then a second pass at full depth at 90 degrees to the first.

Best time to scarifier is early autumn
