My brother was cutting the grass yesterday on our lawn mower (industrial type mower) and his daughters were the there. Something happened and one of them went under it. Luckily it wasn't head first but its still bad. She has lost both of her legs. She is only 11 and just started high school. She was talking fine etc yesterday but then she was put into sleep and both of her legs from the knees down where amputated. She hasn't wakened yet and she will be told at some time today.

Here's the mower we have:

Our house is just in shock. Phone ringing literally every 5 minutes. I'm heading down to Uni tonight as well for the first time.

I had to drive the mower down to our house yesterday after and there was no blood etc anywhere, which has really freaked me. My mum says my brother was covered in blood though :(

I'm just thankful she's alive.

Im sorry to hear about the incident. But how exactly did she get caught under the mower?
I'm not sure yet, as everyone is in shock and I haven't spoke to my brother yet.

There isn't much room under the mower so I don't understand. Maybe about 3in at the most.

She must have feel or something and my brother didn't get stopped in time. Shes tall, but very skinny.

She was an Ulster-Scots dancer and she has been going to competitions recently and has been winning pretty much everything. Don't think she'll ever do that again.

what do you mean why , cause must be stupid todo something like this ..
well to have a child running around while your mowing is stupid imo
How would you like it if you were cutting your grass and your child just ran out in front of you and you could stop the mower in time? How would YOU like to be the one who has to grab YOUR child from the mower and see what has happened?

I've read through a few pages and im not reading through any more. I feel sick at the though that people are trying to say this is bs, and also the fact that if it isn't in the news it isnt true.

It happened yesterday at about 12pm. I knew about it straight away but I thought she was okay because mum and dad were talking to her and said she was talking away etc. It was only this morning when mum came in that she told me both her legs are amputated from the knees down.

Out of interest, what hospital was she taken to? Craigavon?
She firstly went to Newry (Daisy Hill) then went to Belfast, Mum said dundonald?

And about the girlfriend thing, it just happened to be at the same time. I knew about it last night but doesnt mean I have to tell everyone about it, i didnt even know exactly what was wrong at the time (last night)

Someone also mentioned about why I posted the picture. I posted it so people wouldnt get confused with a normal lawnmower which I thought they would.

i feel sick

Just a little update:

She is doing really good. I went to see her the other day and she was fine, and acting like nothing really happened. I guess children are like that?

She got the casts off yesterday and Mum said she was fine, and today she was going out of the hospital for the first time.

Doctors/nurses says she is 3 weeks ahead even though she has only been there a week and that she could be home as early as this friday?!

Thanks for everyones support from this thread. Its nice to read. I can see the point of some people saying its my brothers fault etc. but it has happened now and I guess you have to move on. There is no point starting blaming someone for it. He didn't mean to do it.
