Laying cat6 in walls, do I need conduit?

I'm planning my home network and need to know if the cat6 I have to run in the walls (hopefully just plaster depth, no chasing into brick) should be in conduit, or can I simply clip it and plaster over?

If I'm to use conduit, how many cables would I get through 20mm oval conduit? I want to run 4 cables to each room.

There's no technical reason why you couldn't just clip it (or use some capping) and plaster it in .

Conduit would be preferred, even if it's just so you can change replace cables more easily at a later date. 20mm oval is only going to take two Cat6 cables (I just checked). It does come in 25mm and 32mm versions (possibly bigger). It's all so cheap that you could just run a couple of lengths side-by-side.

If you have the depth for 20mm round conduit that'll four cat6 cables easily.

I don't know how much space I've got to play with until I remove some plaster. It'd be nice if I could get away with a greater diameter conduit.

I did wonder if I'd have to resort to running a pair of conduits, with 2 cables per conduit. No hardship, I suppose.

Thanks.
