LCD monitor backlight flickering

Is it normal for the backlights in LCDs to start flickering after several years of usage?

Either the inverter or the bulb is broken, the good news is inverters are only a few quid and ccfl bulbs are about 10-15 quid. It's only a 10 Min job to replace them.

Just to add, if its a laptop, then it might just be a loose connector between mobo/inverter/screen.
