lcd shutsdown

Deffinatly too hot - as said, check the fan is physically spinning.

It might br worth downloading GPUz to check the temp there, and fan speed.

ran GPUz showed loads reading no fan speed took out gfx card earlier to blow it out nearly to hot to touch can the fan be replaced in the card or is it a new card i need.

Was dust just holding the fan from spinning?
Can you freely spin the fan now with little effort - can you visual see the fan is not spinning or attempting to spin?

I believe you can buy a additional cooler that will fit on this card if its borked

Something like this - you will have to check your card is okay with this - but you get my meaning for a cheap fix

I used to have a 9800gx2, i belive the only aftermarket coolers available are waterblocks, due to the 'sandwich' design of the card, both GPUs are on seperate PCBs, facing inward to each other.

Is the card still under warranty? what brand is it?

You could possibly look at replacing the fan, but thats assuming its the fan thats busted, and not a fault with the actual card thats caused the fan not to power-up.

i would like to thank you all for your advice it has been very helpfull i now think i will bite the bullet and get a new gfx i dont want to spend more than 150- 180 any advice please

Sounds like graphics card is going if it's half way through gaming.

Unless it starts up and the resolution change is making the moniter spazz out
