Hello,

Just got a HP Pavilion DV5-1010

Great machine, but the resolution is much lower thatn I'm used to, being 1200x800. I need more desktop! So, I plan to replace the LCD for a WSXGA+ 1680x1050, the same as I have on my Dell.

Question is, I cannot find the 'official' WSXGA+ HP screen and have found this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-15-4-WSXGA-LAPTOP-LCD-SCREEN-1680x1050_W0QQitemZ270337495861QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_LaptopAccess_RL?hash=item270337495861&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318bad boy on the bay. It's a Chi Mei panel which are supposed to be good, but can anyone tell me if it will fit? Are LCD's a standard fit or is every laptop using different connectors/pins etc etc.

Coincedenially I'm looking to do the exact same thing :) I have a DV5-1110EM with the (crappy) 1280x800 screen and want to replace it with the 1680x1050.
According to the DV5 service manual, there are 2 different part numbers for the display ribbon cable (one for the 1280 and one for the 1680 screen) so that may need to be changed too, although I can't seem to source one anywhere.
May be worth getting the part number of your current screen and taking a photo of the connector on the back of the panel, emailing it to that ebay seller and asking if that screen will fit?

laptopspares iirc is who i used to deal with, ribbon cables for screens used to be very expensive though.

Personally i wouldn't bother, you have no guarentee the screen is going to work even with the ribbon it might have a different connector on the GFX end.

Coolio - I'm going to order the one from ebay and will attempt to install next week - I'll let you know how I get on...

I'm interested to know if you had any luck with this? If you did looks like I'll be placing an order too :)

Hiya,

Sadly I did not go through with this - I had had the laptop for less than 7 days so returned it and upgraded to the HP HDX16.

The spec on the new one is almost identical but with a 16" 1080p screen, but I had to pay an extra £280 on top of the DV5 price:(

If I had been out of returns period I would have gone for the upgrade.

Good luck if you try, should be a straight swap.
