LCD vs LED

Right im in the market for a new tv (my classic stevie the tv crt blew up last month and ill have a few 100 quid for a replacement) so i was just wondering which is better in the terms of picture quality.

Mainly going to use the tv for well watching tv (free view it looks like) and playing games on my ps3 and older consoles, if these dictate anything.

My mum has a samsung lcd tv from about 4-5 years ago which is one of the best tv's iv ever watched so if nothing else ill end up with a samsung set...

Haha, cheers for some ideas there. I think ill only be able to justify a cool £500 on a tv (and I cant remember the exact dimensions of my new living room so iv got to remember to keep the size reasonably practical and transportable back to england at some point in the next year or so) but ill keep an eye on the option of a plasma, and it seems a bit like led isnt ready for me (been 4-5 years before iv let my self get high def so you know...)

If anyone has any cool suggestions please pass them on as I wont be rolling into town to get something till thursday afternoon and ill be annoying tv sales people by sitting and watching sets for a bit to see what I like

Wow, didnt realise tv's we're so divisive... (then again most things are really...)

Ended up in currys getting my self a samsung LE32C580J1K (think thats the right combination after the LE32) and i havnt stopped smiling Its only a 32 inch lcd that does 1080p and by having a read through everything here it seems iv gone just the right way for gaming (what we've been doing all week without the internet).

Got to say cheers for all the ideas and suggestions as it was a difficult choice to keep my self under the £370 mark and I think iv made the right choice after a really good experience with my mothers older version of the same tv (5 years older so i only does 1080i) and an equally good experience with my 4 year old samsung monitor. The tv its self fits nicely within my living room without dwarfing it and plays all my consoles very very well (even the mega drive!)
