Hi all,

I am on the 8mb package with aol and am currently getting dissconections (99% in BF2) but wasn't sure if it was the game or maybe something to do with the hardware / software side of things.

I have check the usual, spyware, firewall, router resets, etc...

I am running vista 64 hard wired to my DG834 router and after many weeks of losing connections and not getting a lot of help from AOL i started tp look for the problem my self.

I'm still not sure if its BF2 but when i lose connection (in game) i also get lose connection from X-Fire.

I had a look in my router log and found the following;

Thats only some of it but you get the picture.

Aol can't help, can you?

Restart everything tbh. Router && PC. If they still fail ring AOL as JonRohan said.

Stats (attenuation, SNR margin, sync rate) would be useful. Instructions in sticky.
LCP going down would imply that the router's losing sync.

OK guys thanks for the replies, I'll read the sticky now but cant see the info your asking for tolien ( maybe the sticky will instruct me how to find them).

Yes the router is losing sync, does that mean its faulty?

I'm going to switch it off when i got to bed and leave it over night.

Also they ran a woosh test and said everything was fine.

Thanks

Attenuation down: 52db
Attenuation up: 14.5db
Noise margin down: 5bd
Noise margin up: 23db
Connection speed Down: 4256
Connection speed up: 448

Sorry can't find the sync rate

Ok thanks for that, Ive been doing a little reading and one has mentioned removing the ring wire which will improve my snr, whats your opinions on this and is there any other way to solve this?

I did hear a rumour that the faster my connection the more my snr will drop so if i cant resolve this then would i be better going back to my 2mb connection?

here is the link for the ring wire trick http://www.dslzoneuk.net/socket.php?type=html
still a little hit or miss.

Thanks for that Dave, ill try that tonight.

Just been looking for router firmware updates and there some available which ill do but can a firmware update cure this?

Edit:

The above link says its for ADSL Max & ADSL2+, i know i have ASDL but how od i kno0w if ive got ADSL2+?

Just got home and my noise margin has gone upto 10db, don't get this at all.

What is a safe noise margin to have?

Edit: Now at 6

I've checked the socket and theres only 2 wires wired up but wired to the master connector.Theres another 2 just coiled and to confirm that isn't any wires connected to 2 + 5 pins so i asasume the 2 coile up wires should go onto the 2 & 5. Ill try a router firmware update late and see how i get on. I'll lower my speed as a last resort.

Got any ideas?

It would probably be more stable but there are last drastic options than that - increasing the target SNR margin would give you more stability at the expense of reduced speed.

Without knowing what was in the update, it's hard to say. If it updated the firmware for the modem, it's possible.

Your router should say.

Just got home and my noise margin has gone upto 10db, don't get this at all.

It's not abnormal for it to fluctuate.
There isn't a "safe" SNR margin - the higher it is the more stable, but slower, your connection will be. The default target SNR margin is 6dB.

Right..

1) I'm running the latest firmware with no difference.
2) Im now plugged into the master socket with no difference
3) Ive seen it drop to 0db tonight
4) I want to try and increase the SNR and try it if possible, can allways go back to old settings if it doesnt work.

Do i need some third party software or something ot do this?
