Just had a letter come through from a company called LCS.

By the sounds of things they're a debt recovery agency.

I'm 99.9% sure this is to do with the energy used between the person selling the house and us moving in. The day we moved in I took the meter readings and setup an account with our current provider (Sainsburys/Britsh Gas) who must have passed this on to Eon who were the current providers at the time, as eon setup an account for us so that we could switch to Sainsburys. I have a feeling the previous owner left the fridge running (he moved out ~2 weeks before we moved in/signed the contracts)

A copy of the letter is here;

I've had a quick Google and there seems to be mixed comments about whether or not to reply. Presumably, as this is just an "investigation" I'm well within my rights to just chuck it in the bin?

Any help would be useful :)

Wouldn't it be easy to just let them know the date you took occupancy rather than be all obstructive, may make life easier in the long run.

I would have thought they would have already gotten this from EON as they're not asking for an amount.

Tbh, I only know the guys name, I've no idea where he's moved to now.

I think it'll be a matter of put it in the bin and I'll give my partner the heads up about the company either knocking or sending more letters.

I'm currently using clear score. I've tried Noddle a few times and I've never been able to sign up.

I'll get in contact with Eon and see what they say and get them to put it in an email.

Used eons live chat. Had the transcript emailed to myself. Dates confirmed from the day we moved in and the readings provided.

Think that's my bottom covered :)

Im sure that's what they're after. I've just remembered that he left the heating on as well so I reckon there's probably about £30 outstanding.

I'm surprised no poo or letter boxes have been mentioned with this being Gd.

Thanks for the responses though

Did you buy the house from the previous owner? Surely their responsibility ends at the point they no longer own the property and any energy used after that point is the responsibility of the new owner? It's not the previous owners fault you didn't move in/take a reading till after 2 weeks.

The previous owner moved out 2 weeks before we signed the contract. Although he moved out and gave EON the readings two weeks prior to the move, because the heating and fridge were still left on for those two weeks he is responsible for that energy as he was the legal owner of the property.
