LDR = Long Distance Relationships.

Hey,

I am currently in one and was wondering if anyone else is in one at the moment and can share your story and maybe any advice to keep things 'active' and 'interesting' between us.

So, has anyone been in one? What was the distance? How did you communicate? How often did you see them ? etc etc :)

I was in one once, didnt last, got bored.

I had to see her when i wanted to see her, im kind of like that.

I missed the gurl too much so i had to call it off, got too much for me in the end.

i thought it would work...got proven wrong. dno if id ever do it again tbh.
time apart creates this "space" if you dont keep in contact everyday or see them frequently - if neither are willing to travel it won't work.
Then again when you're with them and do see them its like you were never apart and such a great feeling :)

so in conc - if its not mutual commitment - calling and seeing - it wont work out.

When I started going out with Iain we only saw each other at weekends. He lived 90 miles away. It was incredibly hard at first and it will only work if there is complete trust otherwise it will drive you mad! We'd text or talk on the phone every day.

We then got a flat in Edinburgh and moved in with his parents when the lease was up.

Now he's been moved to a different office and is now living with my mum while I'm living at his. It's a lot harder the 2nd time round as we've been so used to seing each other every day. We still talk to each other every day on the phone and see each other at weekends. Still counting down the days till he comes back and we can get our own house together though :)

We'll be together 3 years this year :D

Fox - It will seem really hard at first but thankfully it's easy to stay in touch :)

The current girlfriend and I met on our year abroad in Japan last year. She's from Taiwan and I'm studying in Sheffield so quite a bit of distance between us now!

It's tough work, especially with the time difference, but we Skype atleast every few days and keep in relatively good contact. We visit eachother as often as possible...actually, I'm in Taiwan right now for my Easter holidays. Although having said that, 'as often as possible' is about once every 3 months or so.

Long distance relationships are tough, no doubt about that. But if you're both willing to make it work, then I don't see why not. The current and I have been together for over a year now, most of which was time spent apart.
