Leadtek 7600, horrible I know but...

Hello,

I'm about to press the order button on an upgrade...

intel core 2 duo e6600
Gigabyte GA_965P_DQ6
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz

and probably a Leadtek GeForce 7600 GS SILENT 256MB.

mainly as my poor 6600gt (AGP) won't fit in the new board, so just need something to tide me over until the 8800's get a little cheaper and bank account recovers. my cpu is on the way out, so it's time to upgrade... do you think this is an ok card for the time being?

7600gs is a good card. but if you want tiding over get a cheaper 7300gt. about the same performance but lower costs.

I bought that card. The performance is fine for what I want but after a week I replaced the supplied heatsink with a Zalman VF700 as it was too hot for my liking. The VF700 running at 5V is as silent as a very silent thing and still cools much better than the standard HS.

Not just any 7300gt, but one with DDR3 memory. The OcUk one is still under £60 and it an absolute bargain.

Good plan , just to say as a user of a 7300 GS , even the GS version will probably tide you over to be honest for a little less cash, it will play most things i throw at it , just dont expect AA or high quality

Blooming good range of cards though , i recommend the GT

Would you not flog the 6600? you might be surprised what you'd get for it. Good AGP cards are in high demand atm.

yea your 6600gt agp will fetch you around 55 quid easily on the members market.

7300 GT has been SLI'd with a 7600 GT

Reason I'm not selling the old card... With luck I'll have enough spare parts for a second pc soon (always good to have an emergency one incase something goes boom).

But long as it keeps me playing until vista/8800's get cheaper/i'm not broke, i'll be a happy man.
