I've been reading up on here for a while and it seemed until yesterday that the Leadtek 7600GT was the best AGP card for me to get for my AGP system to last me until I do a big upgrade when DX10 cards come out.

However I've seen a couple of reports here on these cards becoming corrupted. What's the likelihood of that happening if I buy one of these cards myself? I've seen several people post how great a card it is and if it weren't for the two corruption issues then I'd probably buy one this weekend.

What do you guys think I and any other prospective buyers should do? And is OCUK doing anything about the current batch of Leadtek 7600GTs?

Also on another small issue, would the enermax liberty 500W PSU be enough to power a Core Duo 6600 (OCed) and a DX10 card system when I upgrade? I plan on buying the new PSU now with the 7600GT to replace my crappy 305W Dell PSU. I don't want to have to upgrade it again when I build my new computer from scratch. Would I be safer going with the slightly more expensive 650W?

Do you have a dell machine?

If so id check you have an AGP slot before you buy the 7600GT as some dont.

Also, not sure if dell use non standard power supplies.

Dunno what to say really. I'm one of the people with a fully working Leadtek 7600 GT AGP. Maybe hold off a few days in case those 2 guys with the problems find a solution?

I don't think it's an issue like with the 7900 GT where they would progressively fail over time, just a few of them are duds maybe, so even if you got a faulty one, you could just get it replaced and have every chance of getting a working one.

Maybe Gibbo can say how many Leadtek 7600 GT AGPs have been sold so far, thus putting those 2 possibly faulty cards into a reassuring context.

my 7600GT working well. I guess there will be a very high demand for this card not just in the UK, but US, Europe also, demand will initially outstrip supply, and in their attempt to meet this demand there may be a few cards that slip through the quality net....

the two you read about here are probably a fraction of the total sold even through OCUK.

also the 305Watt PSU in the dell may be a little on the light side, and I bet the amps it can deliver under load may be choppy.. there not a high end high quality component selector, Dell will use what will work with the machine as shipped.

Yes I have a Dell Dimension 8300 from May 2004. It's actually served me very well for its age and I'd recommend it to anyone that wasn't interested in upgrading or overclocking.

The bad things though are:

Poor cooling, only one system fan aimed down at the CPU by a plastic 'hood'.
No thermometers on the mobo or 9800Pro.
Poor power supply, 305W ugh.
Only two harddrive slots, my third is slid in diagonally into the space for the two floppy bays.
Weird problem with the CD bays not being able to fit the audigy 2 front board. I had to rip off the plastic around the bay cover then use masking tape to hold the drive in place. It certainly gives it a 'more then stock' look but certainly can't be described as a snazzy design.

I think I will get the 7600GT at the end of this weekend if I haven't heard of any more problems with it. What I need to decide on though is to get the 500W or the 650W PSU. I'm edging towards the 650 just to be future proof.

so far 3 7600gt cards have been sold, and 2 have failed.

2 people in this thread with working ones, so 2/4 have failed. Plus in the previous 7600 GT AGP thread there were several other people with working ones. I'm sure there are many other people with working ones too who don't use the forums.

We'll see how things develop...

Hi,

I have bought one of these leadtek 7600GT cards this week. I have just been reading about some of the problems others have been having with theirs.

I was wondering, how I would test to make sure mine was alright? I don't play many 3d intensive games. I think so far I haven't really noticed anything major with my card.

I did try and play a dvd through the pc and the faces of people seemed a bit red. Thats about the only issue I have noticed.

I have updated the drivers, currently using 9.1.4.7.

Is there any sort of test that I could do with the graphics card to make sure that mine is free from the problems others have faced?

Thanks for any help on this matter.

Cheers!

I also have a 7600GT AGP working perfectly.

I wouldn't assume you will need a significant PSU upgrade either, the PCI-E versions do not all require an additional power connector and even the AGP version I have ran several games perfectly happily before I spotted the power connector wasn't plugged in as there was one game it would not run with at all. Once the power was connected it was perfect again :)

Ok, hope you didn't take offence at the suggestion, but it's amazing how many people do forget the power connection :) Bad luck on the faulty card :( Hope you get a working one in the future.

Btw I didn't get mine from OcUK if that has any relevance, but it is the Leadtek.

I don't think my Dad has even noticed his PC is 3.3 times quicker btw :D (based on 3Dmark05 increase over his old 9600 Pro)

Thanks Cyber-Mav & fish99.

Downloaded 3DMark06 and it seems to have got through the Deep Freeze test without any visable problems.

I would think then, that I have got one of the Leadtek 7600GT's that work.

Incidently I bought mine from OCUK if that helps anyone on making a purchasing decision.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

Cheers! :)
