Leaking gearbox... what to do?

My mum had a leaky gearbox so the local sparky tightened everything up, and then it stopped. Failing that you could try a stop leak product.

Actually taking the box apart to replace the leaking seals would probably end up being quite expensive.

What car is it?

Where from, and on what? They all have seals in various places. Parts will be very cheap, labour could be expensive if you have to take the box out.

Ive got some gasket making stuff, its like a filler. It seems to be coming from the bottom. Its no where nere the sump and it looks like the gearbox (from my knowledge anyway :p )

Also its a Pug 307

Definaltly coming from the gearbox just had a good look. Seems like its coming from the bottom on the gearbox.

If you are looking for a botch up cheap fix I would recommend 'Plastic Padding Leak fix'. Seriously dries so quickly that you can usually do it without draining the item. It dries tough so should last a very long time.

Obviously it is not as good as replacing the gasket but if you are on a tight budget it is the next best thing.

if the car is automatic do not drive it with low oil or you could end up with a bill for more than the cars worth. if it a major leak get it recovered to a local garage for inspection.
if its a manual and losing very little oil and has not been involved in any sort of crash then it's likly to be just a weaping driveshaft oil sael and should cost no more the £90 ish from any independent garage.

Dont use any sort of addertive in your gearbox or try to repair it yourself unless your 100% sure you know what your doing.

It would be on the outside of the box, rather than the inside. Do you think that would be ok?
