I have a 02 passat that has developed a leak in the rear passenger side footwell. I think its coming down the heating duct under the seat but dont know how, coolant levels are max and aircon hasnt been on, it floods when we have heavy rain and makes the alarm faulty, any ideas?

yknow the scuttle tray the covers the battery, well the area under there should have a couple big drains on either side.

i recon yours will be full of leaves etc. worth a look

I had this on an 02 passat. Have you recently had the pollen filter replaced?

The seal doesn't always seat correctly and it comes in through there.

Drains are also a problem as mentioned above, but it gets in through the filter housing.

Do passats suffer from door carrier problems like other VAGs? example of the fix is here: http://www.fabia-vrs.com/technical-info/door-carrier-repair/

The big problem is it eventually corrodes the wiring loom under the footwell and that ain't cheap :/

I'll check it out but basically they are using a silicon substitute?

I was put paper under the door sills where i meets the carpet but it seems dry. I'm suspecting under the battery as there is some water under it

I can tell you exactly what this is, weekly occurrence in our main dealer :)

Your pollen filter housing will have a seal running around the bottom of it, this seal gets perished and causes water to come through underneath the housing then down into the heater blower, then obviously into the the footwell.
There is also a drain bung underneath the battery in the bulkhead, this gets blocked up very easy and there was a recall out to remove them. Do you know if yours has had the plenum chamber recall?

Its an easy enough job to do, takes about a day to do as the passenger side carpet will need to be lifted and dried with heaters.

Are you looking to fix this yourself?
If so i can take you through what you need to do.

Hope this helps.
