Hi all

Volvo S80 and water trickles down the inside of the windscreen in heavy rain.

I've called my insurers and they're saying that since it's not actually damaged, they won't cover it with the £75 excess replacement and I'll need to do it privately.

I called a couple of windscreen places and they said that since the glass often cracks when removed, they won't be able to do a remove and refit, it'll have to be a full replacement job at ~£300.

Does anyone have any tips for other things I can try to sort out a leaky windscreen? It's coming in from the top right. Are they correct that these screens cannot be removed and re-fitted / re-bonded?

Cheers.

Have you ever had the windscreen replaced before? I know when I had mine done due to a chip they put a decent warranty on the replacement/fitting.

They can usually backfill the windscreen but can be a bit messy with the glue involved, they will mention the screen breaking when removed as a matter of precaution as they are not the easiest things to remove.

How badly is it leaking? I'd probably say it's worth "breaking" the windscreen to force it through an insurance job or alternatively get pally with them and go direct to the approved windscreen repairer.

If they say they won't cover it, then introduce a crack in it. What's the point of insurance if they don't cover when you need a repair :/

Insurance doesn't cover self harming ;-) Also, having asked them, I think they would be suspicious if it now breaks.
Andi.

Be a shame if you were out driving it, and a stone got thrown up by a lorry and cracked the screen. Unfortunately that kind of thing happens all the time... ;)

You don't need to contact insurance, you can go direct to the windscreen company as long as they are the approved repairer. They will just claim through the insurance automatically.

Besides stone chips happen all the time :)

It's quite a common complaint on factory fitted Volvos. That said, any replacement windscreen is as good as the person who fitted it.

Simple solution: remove and refit it. Anyone who says windscreens 'usually crack' is not to be trusted. DO NOT back fill it.

As for those who are suggesting to bang in a moody claim, you are a disgrace.

Is it 100% the screen though? If it has a sunroof then the drain tube could be blocked and screen replacement wouldn't do anything....

The windscreen is damaged though....it's leaking. You can dress it up how you like but it isn't functioning properly so if he were to introduce it to a stone I personally wouldn't resent it

A leaking windscreen does not come under 'glass damage'.

Willfully damaging it with a stone does, but that's down to how your conscience allows you to process such an act.
