How do all,

Seem to have a problem with wind escaping. Long story short, I've had two different tyres on front right of my motor, and both have had a slow leak where they would drop a few PSI every week.

I'm not convinced it's a faulty valve as KwikFit apparently replace the valves free with the tyres, and the problem persisted through both boots, therefore it must be escaping somewhere around the rim.

I'm just not sure how to get this sorted. I don't want to get yet another tire and find the issue still there, so do I just go into a tyre fitter place and mention what is happening? Can they easily diagnose and fix?

Sorry if this is a bit of a blonde question.

It can leak from the rim if the rim has any corrosion, get them to take the tyre off and sand around the rim.

That is what I was going to say also. If there is a corossion bubble near the edge on the inside of the rim, it can press up on the tyre and allow air to escape.

When I had my tyres changed on my old car, which had some corossion on the alloys, the tyre fitter went over the inside edges of the rim with a wire brush before fitting the tyres. :)

I doubt Kwik Fix would bother.

It does sound likely to be a problem with the rim, could be corrosion around where the bead sits (which may just need sanding/filing so it seals better), or could actually be a minor crack somewhere.

As you have said though, just go to a tyre fitter, explain you have some kind of slow leak and could they have a look.

They should take the tyre off, do a visual check of the rim, and will be able to advise and deal with it from there.

Assuming the Rim isn't obviously damaged, I'm sure there is a kind of sealant they now use for these kind of minor issues.

Rightyo, just been on the phone to Kwikfit, they can have a look this saturday for me. Wasn't aware they did that sort of thing, thought they just fit them and that's that ha.

Chap even said it's free if they don't find the issue, so he must be confident they can fix it. Hope they can, it's a bloody pain having to pump it up every other week.

I have that problem quite a lot

Either way, take it to a decent tyre place who will put it in a bath of water and see where the air is leaking. Probably around the rim, a full refurb would be one way to sort it

Why don't you put a weak solution of washing up liquid in a spray bottle and spray it around the rim and valve? Any leaks will show up as a mass of tiny bubbles and you have your answer to the location of the leak.

I'm very hands off when it comes to cars, I don't know much about them other than how to drive one. Prefer to just take it to a garage :p

The bodge solution is one of those puncture repair cans. Have used them on a slow deflating tyre before with good results
