Learner Driver Insurance Questions

Hi all,

My girlfriend is looking at getting a car - she is still learning to drive.

Insurance wise, pricing seems very reasonable but I have a couple of questions.

If she passes half way through the insurance period? what happens, do the premiums automatically get adjusted - IE more. Or is it like when you have an accident, the premium effect does not happen until your next renewal?

Diamond appears to be our best bet, if we use them for the first year as a learner, are we restricted into having to use them the year after?

Also, a quick question regarding named drivers, do they have to be of residency at the same address? Or can myself for example that lives at a different address be added to her policy?

Thanks in advance!

Matt

Anyone can be a named driver doesnt matter where you live.

Once she passes thebchange will be immediate so you'll need to know what the increase will be

My girlfriend was insured with a provisional licence then passed her test back in March. There was no change in premium with Aviva. She's just renewed with them - about £200 less than last year now she has 1 year NCB.

You earn NCB with even with a provisional licence. You can change policy at any time.

I passed back in 2000 but I'm sure it didn't change for me back then either.

Depends on insurer, where i work the premium shouldn't be updated until renewal, sometimes it will then increase but hopefully she will also get a years NCD which itself should make a nice decrease.
