After spending 10 months on scooters in Thailand while being away there I caught the bug and told myself that once back home I would pull my finger out and actually do my CBT and pass my test. My new job comes with nightmare parking attached so I finally pulled that finger out, applied for my provisional license and CBT date.

Spent a few weeks looking for 125s but locally the market is a little slower than you might expect with dealers carrying very little in terms of 125 stock. A few things cropped up online but mostly stuff was too expensive or too cheap and as a result, tatty.

The last dealer I popped into actually had some 125s, one of which was a Honda Varadero (Baby Varadero compared to the 1000!). I'd read up on these after seeing an older model online prior to visiting and the press is good, user reviews seem mostly good and, being a larger bloke, the size is good.

It's also a Honda, nuff said.

Put a deposit down on it today which is :D:D but will not be able to ride it until I get a CBT date which is :(:( It's a 2008 model which means it's face-lifted compared to the launch model and fuel injected. 3,000 miles on it and few minor marks on the fairings but that's just cosmetic.

Looking forward to getting back on 2 wheels and getting to grips with a manually geared machine.

Now...got to go buy all the gear!

Nice one and great choice of bike! That thing should last years:)

Best of luck when the CBT day comes around and throw a pic of the bike in the new bike thread.

Very happy with the choice of bike compared to the usual sort of stuff you can get in the 125 range. I saw a brand new VanVan in a Suzuki dealer and as retro-cool as they are could not stomach the brand-new sticker price for one :D

I'll snap some pics when I pick it up :)

I fully expect to see you back here in 6 months saying that you want to do your full test :)
(that's what I did - I *only* wanted a 125cc for commuting on, now I've got a ZX6R and and FZ6)

Very nice! Would have loved to get the Varadero myself, but there were literally none within a reasonable distance from me, so ended up with a CBF '09. Used it every day for a year to get to work, not one problem :)

As above, you will be back and you will want to get your full licence :p

The plan is to eventually migrate to a big bike. Jersey works a little differently. Need to ride on a 125/Light Motorcycle license for 1 year on P plates after passing your test. After that you can take the heavy motorcycle license which lets you ride anything over 240cc.

CBT all done and dusted, theory booked - just need to do that then book practical to finish off the Light Motorcycle licensing :)

1 Year then can consider big bike test should I wish!
