Learning a foreign language

Anyone know off any audio cd's or the like to learn the basics off Portuguese?

I hate to be a **** but I can't miss this opportunity.

Learn English first, it's "of".

:edit: Seriously though, I'm very interested in this too. I'll be watching this thread :)

something on TV called rosettastone, supposed to teach you howto think like said nationals instead of teaching the language, it teaches the mentallity or something.
Im looking for something to help with my Unilang spanish atm, going to download a few 'free trials' and buy whichever book/audio i figure is the best for me

That's what I was going to point out as well - I'm quite interested in the Rosettstone product as well.

might i just point out that rosetta stone is VERY expensive and not very useful from my experience, as the pictures they use are often hard to figure out!

might i suggest a piece of software called "before you know it" www.byki.com, it is pretty much the same as rosetta stone but i found it far more useful.

The best way is to simply speak with a native speaker as much as possible, trying and learning all the time. Download Skype, plug in a mic and do just that. Talk about a whole range of topics, in all tenses.

You'll then develop a natural way of speaking the language, as opposed to sounding like a text book. Make sure you listen to and understand every nuance of every syllable. I also suggest getting to grips with English, to anyone. Understanding language as a whole really does help in the learning process, and hell, it might just improve your English, too! :)

Also, do not learn single words. It takes as much energy to learn one word, as it does to learn a sentence. So instead of learning the word for 'Bread', learn it in the context of a sentence, like 'He baked some bread'. Then you can study each of the other words in the sentence and you'll find that you learn a lot about the functions of the language.
