Learning code mainly html and css

Hi all iv been mucking around with my dads website for some time just changing small things text color sizes etc.
Im very interested in learning more about basic html and css coding?
What is the best thing todo at the moment i just google what i want todo then copy it, but i want to be able to cut down on the help and learn.

Do i just keep googling and keep mucking around and eventually it will stick.
Or are there like online courses if so any good?
I see there are some courses online but not sure what they are like.

thanks, the problem i have i think i need a structured foundation as if i read bits and pieces it does not sink in.
 
Codeacademy is structured. All laid out in proper lesson plans etc. You use the built in editor too. Very good for the basics.
 
Most people learn better by doing so I would suggest that you just practice what you learn as much as possible. I've been doing this for years and I still have to use the reference sometimes. I find that as you neglect certain things you forget them and need to have them refreshed occasionally. The stuff you do a lot though becomes second nature.
 
Code academy will teach you things but it won't teach you the why or explain anything.

I gave up on it because of that.
