Hi all

Need some help and advice. To cut a long story short Missus is great at capturing the moment with a camera so bought a 600D and nifty fifty to go with kit lens as a starting point. She has taken some nice snaps but wants to learn in depth.

Now we bought a book or two but what she is wanting to do is some kind of online course she can work through at own speed in spare time, something where at end of lessons you send photos to be critiqued etc. (something a book cannot do)

Most courses seem tons of money and you don't know if it's a scam. For example this one was on groupon for 50 quid but to me it looks a scam....

This one looked great but 500!!

So the question is.... Is there such a thing as a good online college for photography, or are you better either attending classes or simply reading book.

Help

check out groupon today :)

And look at local college etc , nothing better than hands on.

Have a look at the courses offered by GoingDigital. I went to one of their birds of prey days at Hardwick Hall, Derbyshire. Was an excellent day - the two people running the course were very good, both in terms of photo skills / knowledge and the birds themselves.

a lot of the good one's do cost £400 upward, run for day or 2 they tend to be done by professionals who run then on the side to earn extra money. you can get your foot in the door so to speak by doing the some of the entry level photography course's that most college's do now and will also teach basic computer use when using adobe photoshop, plus it also help to join your local photography club as they can tech you stuff, give advise and they tend to do day trips. also some college's tend to use models from various other course's they run for example most college will have performing arts department, hair and beauty etc type course's.

also photography magazines have a lot of useful tip or tutorials in them.

save your money and learn from other people froknowsphoto on youtube is a good start :) Ive been learning some stuff from his videos

get her on talkphotography, watch Youtube, check the local library for books and join a local photography club.

You'll learn more and save loads of cash by doing this :D

If she knows the technical side - aperture, shutter speed, ISO etc, the rest is art and her eye. Something that is difficult to teach, she can learn more by looking at work that she loves and by imitating them (nothing wrong with that), and learning from them.
