Well I've recently picked up a really cheap yamaha e 323 Elecy Keyboard and have started to learn Piano through self teaching. I was wondering if any one else on here had done the same and if so what tips / helpful books or websites helped them. Also Looking at full sized 88 key keyboards but at a cheapish sorta price level, any recommendations?

I Enjoy it a fair amount and would like to start to become better at it then just messing around on it. Recently I've picked up Synthesia, a guitar hero style program for midi keyboards and its pretty cool for learning piano covers especially when you purchase the learning pack side of it.

Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated!! :)

Would also appreciate some info on this, wife recently picked up a Yamaha CLP-500 for £200 and i would like to pick it up on the sly!

If you are looking to get a electric piano then get one with Hammer action that simulate the weighted keys of a real piano. Otherwise when you cmoe to play the real thing it will feel alien to you.

I bought a Yamaha P-70 last year with a stand on ebay for £300. It is nothing flash, just 88 keys, hammer action, does have a MIDI out at the back. I am also taking lessons weekly/fortnightly as well.

You can get the newer model, the P-85 now, but they cost around £600 new. I didn't want to spend that much as i didn't know how serious i was going to get into it.

Thanks for the Synthesia mention - looks pretty good!

Gonna give it a go over the weekend.

pianoworld.com has a good forum with a decent adult beginners section.
The consenus seems to be that the Alfred's Adult Piano Course books are a good way to start learning.
If you are in any way serious then a teacher will be invaluable at some stage to correct posture and advise on phrasing, rhythm etc.
