Just wondering if any of you doing much video editing and if so if you can recommend some good tutorials for getting into Premiere and After Effects (Premiere first). I know there are lots of stuff on youtube but I'd like something more structured. Also a few books would be handy.

Since getting a drone a month or so ago I've become a lot more interested in video and would like to learn how to edit and colour grade properly.

Many years ago I did a fair bit with video and used premiere but it's moved on a lot and I've pretty much forgotten most of it apart from the basics.

Thanks

If YouTube isn't doing it for you probably the best bet is Lynda.com

I think it really helps if you have something in mind that you're trying to achieve, a type of effect or filter — it's not enough just to go through the courses one by one unless you need the absolute basics.

Id just jump right in and try some things out if I were you. That will trigger things that you'll want to find out about.

I just started with After Effects yesterday and already have a fairly good output from only a couple of hours messing around.

That's kind of what I'm doing at the moment, I've got footage in Dlog etc that I'm colour grading to get a look I like, good fun :)

I'm struggling to get my head around how to work best between Premiere and AE as there are a few ways of linking them, think it's just going to be trial and error.

I'm going to the Camera Show next week so will probably pick up a couple of books there and watch a few of video related presentations.

Are you using LUTs on your DLOG footage. I have also just got a Mavic recently and have been trying to find the best LUT.

When you do get round to After Effects, video copilot is a pretty handy resource. Follow some of the basic tutorials and it will give you the basics and ideas for creating your own effects.

I am using LUTs when I have one with the effect I want. At the moment I am using D-Cinelike with -1-1-1 which was the best option at the time I got the Mavic. I have been meaning to try DLOG again since the update but haven't got around to it.

I'm really enjoying the Mavic and Video, I'll be at the Photography show tomorrow and have a list of video stuff I want!

I just had a look at Video Copilots, awesome stuff! wish I could justify the price of some of there plugins awazing.
