I didnt know Android apps are written in Java, might get into it myself!

One thing I don't like is Eclipse IDE, too cluttered for my liking.

You don't have to use Eclipse, but you could customise Eclipse to look less cluttered. The Workbench is very configurable.

Haven't seen it mentioned here but have you had a look at Appcelerator Titanium?

Looks very similar to Phonegap but certainly worth a look, thanks Baplad.
