Hi guys

I want to know your opinion on whether or not you think it is worth learning to draw. I'm not even average at drawing, and to be frank I'm not sure if it is even something you can become great at. I'm thinking that it is something you are born with. Have you ever been in an art class and some people were just miles better than everyone else? I know I have been in that class. What say you?

there's a few things you can learn to help you draw certain things more accurately, like proper proportions and stuff. If you mean creatively then no.

It just sort of came to me when I was younger. I could draw really well from the off whereas others found it incredibly difficult but saying that, I've heard stories of conceptual designers working on movies who studied economics etc, never picked up a pencil until late in their lives yet go on to work in Hollywood!

As long as you enjoy it, sketch away!

Yep, there are successful artists who started in their 40s+, but there are also plenty of people who can practice forever and never get any better. :p

^^ me. I can not draw to even save my life, doesn't help that I dont have a creative bone in my body either.

of course you can learn - you can learn to do anything. sure, co-ordination does help but nothing is impossible.

the worst thing you can do is sit in front of a blank support and not know what to draw. choose a subject, or something to draw before you go through any of the motions. once you choose something STICK TO IT and draw it until it's done. then do it again.

first choose a mark making technique, and stick to it. quill and pigment liners are my weapon of choice when it comes to drawing and sketching, but nearly all drawings start with a pencil drawing.

start woth drawing geometric shapes. my favourite thing to draw when I need to warm up is 3d blocks in space. like 3d stepping stones in space. this will help you get a grasp on perspective.

copy other drawings and images too. don't start with portraits, people or faces. this will just be too much too soon as they are increadibly hard to draw and will only frustrate you.

It's not going to happen overnight, and does take time so be patient, but keep at it :)
