Hey,

Well it's time I learn to drive and get it out of the way! I'm 22 so I have no excuses now, really.

How much, in the Uk, did it cost you to learn to drive, from beginning to pass? How long did it take you? How many hours a week etc? Any tips on making it easier, faster and cheaper?

I've just finished Uni for the year and don't start again until September, but I need a Job to fund the learning to drive adventure. Even this is proving difficult, just finding a part time job!

Regards!

i think it cost me around £500 start to finish including tests and licences and lessons although all are more expensive now

Cost me quite abit, i think my lessons were £18 per hour (few years ago mind). Failed my first test so it cost me more for lessons and another test.

Passed my test 3 months ago, Started in january did bulk lessons and passed in march (3rd time) spent close to £1000 - Due to each test costing £56.50 then having to loan your instructors car for 2 hours per test, The cost for failing a test is about £100.

Good luck :)

Passed in October last year. Lessons were £22 per hour and I had 24 hours of lessons before my first test.

I failed my first test (:() but passed second time.

Started a few weeks back, had 10 hours in 2 weeks and covered most of what I need (iirc the emergency stop is the only thing I need to do)
It's just down to practising now, but I'm yet to even book my theory so it will be a while before I pass. Damnit :(

I was taught by a huge scottish ex army guy who literally scared me into passing first time. He was brutal and completely unforgiving but I passed first time with 1 minor. Lessons were around £20 an hour and that was 6 years ago or so. I think I had about 22 in total.

I cant remember the exact figures.

15 lessons at £17 each, then theory and practical cost on top, ~£80, I passed both first go so it did not me as much as it could have done. Each test is ~£50 + lesson before and hire the car for the test, it starts getting expensive.

And the 6 week wait inbetween tests means more lessons = more money!
Its not cheap! But worth it.

i've had my second lesson today, and so far i've done clutch control, entering and exiting some junctions, some reversing, and to cap it off today i had a near miss, oh well learn by mistakes and all that.:)

Im 20 and havnt yet.

Got to love peoples ammusing failure stories though, mate of mine failed his first test by locking his keys in the car... He didnt notice till he was walking out from the test center to actually start the test... :D

Another friend failed twice as he thought he was an f1 driver (thanks to his moron of an instructer), and made the biggist failure on one major and no minors (he had an appaling moment of no lane disipline on a double round about back in mk)

I wish i could learn to drive but i even if i did pass the test i could never afford a car and insurance (on top gear the other day they showed that a £1200 car costs between £3300 and £5000 to insure for a new driver (that was for a 17 year old though, daubt its much cheaper for an older person who just passed)).

I started driving lessons on my 17th birthday in december and passed my test 1st time in march

my lessons were £20 and i had about 20 lessons, also didnt have to pay to use my instructors car

I had 10 lessons before I passed (One a week) at £10er a lesson (Knew the instructor) so £100 + the cost of theory/practical test.

started learning when i was 18, during college (i'm now 19). i had about 50 lessons, all at £20 each.. did 2 hours a week and i failed 2 times :(, though i did manage to pass last november

during one of my lessons, i was on a dual carriageway doing about 50.... a carrera speeds past me on the right and a massive stone hits the front window of my toyota aygo.. i **** myself!
