Hi.
Im planning on starting to learn to drive in early December.
My mate has just made me aware of a new driving law that means i'd have to learn for a year. When does that come into effect?

And are those 1 day crash courses worth doing?

Thanks in advance all.

hey,
im just learnign to drive at the moment.and comign up to my test very soon.

dont go for a intensive course. because its more about road experience than anythign else.
learingg to drive ccan become very boring to be honest, so a crash course wouldnt be worth it.

also, for what its worth id reccomend a female instructor. they tend to mess around a little less than blokes !

No such law. Close thread.
Er, no.
Not everything has been answered.

So this 'new ruling' isnt true. Its still same old in regards to learning to drive?

Ive got no idea who to learn to drive with.
Ive had offers off a bloke i know who taught all his children, who passed theory & practical first time, but im not too sure tbh.

I dont know where you live, but i live in a small town and i could name about 12 driving instructors, so picking them isnt easy. Don't necessarily go with the cheapest one, dont forget if you do go with an instructor and then hate their guts you can always change, but don't put off doing it, you'll only regret it if you dont do it :)

"mess around a little less than blokes"

what exactly do you mean?! lol

I did hear once that they were on about raising the age of driving a car.. but was un-founded afaik..

Dont take any notice.. im sure you would have heard it in the news..

I doubt they'd stop a 21 year old learning to drive. ;)
Im not some 16 year old ppl! Ive just been too busy with studies and work to learn to drive over the last 5 years. lol.

i mean that all the instructers my mates have jhad, all they toldd me was that they just end up driving around eyeing up birds and talking about footy... not really learning much lol.
Women seem to concentrate on the job at hand a littl ebetter IMO.
it costs a hell of a lot of money to waste messing about lol.

btw mate, if your not sure about a teacher, go with your gut instinct tbh.

funny, my instructor was male and was very aware of all the mistakes i was making, to the extent it was rather annoying

I just started to drive too and she's a female, she actually quite good but bit too serious LOL ps I am 20 in May and have only just started ;) I would have learned when I was 16 but unlike all my mates i never had folks that would pay for all my lessons ect and EMA was not round in my day :( scabby lil beggars getting paid to do school

KingAdora is right, there is no such law. These "proposals" (made up rumours) were circulating back when my Dad learnt to drive in the 70's :D
