If I'm starting at rock bottom what kind of collage courses would I have to take? Obviously becoming an Electrician would be handy in itself. Does mild colour blindness still mean a big no no when it comes to work even if you become amazing with electrics?

might be quite difficult to get into that type of work if your color blind becuse if you install the wrong colored cables or identify the wrong colored cables you could drasticly blow the appliance up or yourself.

It's odd. Put a bunch of wires together and I'd have no issues picking out each colour. I just remember being told I was mildly colour blind after doing that coloured blotches test where you at to be able to see a number when I was a kid at school.

It's seems unfair something like this may hold me back from something I may be potentiality be good at.

You may potentially be bad at it also, Can only but try though, I've know a colour blind electrician in my time lol

You might not be color blind at all. I can't see the numbers in those blotchy tests either but i can see colors just fine.

My optometrist told me it's because i only focus out of one eye at a time. It's the same reason i can't see a 3D image with those funky red/green lense 3d glasses... it's also why i suck at guitar hero (cant keep up with whats happening on the screen). :p

- Edit: Bloody hell my sig is outta date. :(

The machines Ive messed about with have just been motherboards with a jamma harness attached to it.

So it you wanted to repair/fault find maybe look into electronic engineering.

Old fruit machines are more fun to repair from what i've seen as they are all mechanical.

as long as you can tell which is which its not a problem

I'm a little red n green colour blind. have to have test at work every 2 years for my job.
its only certain shades of red n green with me so its not a problem as i can still see the main shades of reds n greens

Colour blindness is a misleading term. Indeed, I am slightly red/green colour blind but all that means is that I cannot see some shades of red or green colours and that I sometimes see a different colour to someone else

I studied Electronic Engineering at Uni and have been designing equipment for aviation for the past three years and it hasn't held me back

What would you like to do? Repair or design? I'd be tempted to move into design - a lot of degree courses offer a foundation year which will give you all the grounding you need if you haven't studied maths, physics or similar at A-Level

Some wiring has been changed to a numercial (1 -ve, 2 +ve) system, although you would still struggle if you are colour blind.

It's one of the first things they'd test, so best book yourself in if you're serious about it.
