I was getting to the end of my tether with ADSL24 and the slow speeds I had been getting, I was doing some googling so similar issues and came across a thread on another forum advising to unplug your Sky cable from the ADSL filter. So I did...what a difference!

I can actually browse the web now whilst downloading, It won't take all day to download a 100mb file.

Happy now, easy enough to plug in when needed too (Sky)

Maybe some help to those who have issues.

Also after doing more research, you must have your sky cable plugged into your phone line for the first 12 months of your subscription.

It is required to have access to a telephone line for the first 12months but to be honest I have never had mine pluged in!

Leave it unpluged, sky will not contact you about it, the sky box is a route of all evil with adsl.

You can disconnect them? I thought they had to be connected to get software updates?

I'd love to disconnect mine. SKY did a pee-poor job of the wiring. The installer just ran a cable over our carpet and under the door (lol), which is now frayed and all the bare wire is exposed. Tho I doubt it's dangerous, it's pretty ugly.

I've came across a lot of people who have had developed slow broadband speeds because of Sky installations, and engineers tending to hardwire the telephone connection directly into the test socket (not even the front faceplate) so it can't be bypassed. Beware though, if you have a multiroom setup and disconnect one of your Sky boxes you might get charged full price for all your boxes!

Sounds like a dodgy filter to be honest, I've never had an issue with a multitude of Sky boxes sharing a line with an ADSL connection.

Got Sky here no prob's at all with, plug a new filter into the test socket behind the master socket face plate, see what happen's.

Sky are a bit odd about this telephone cable malarky.

In my last house I disconnected my Sky+ box from the telephone socket and recieved a few letters telling me I was in breach of our contract and they would fine me if I didn't plug it back in (well remove some alleged discount I was getting for having the cable plugged in?).

When I moved, I had Sky HD installed and told the engineer my telephone line wasn't active so he just left me the cable and said to plug it in when its live. I've been here over 12months now and not had a single letter!?

Its more of an issue if you have multiroom, so that they know they are at the same house, ive had a bit of a **** up and ended up with neither of my lines installed, my ex has the multi room box at her house, ive got the hd box at mine.

Sky boxes were renowned in the past for causing issues, they emit a lot of interference.
This. My old Sky box actually stopped my ADSL from working completely when the service was upped from 512 to 2 Meg. My Sky HD box I have now has been fine, best thing I ever did for broadband speed is us an iPlate.
