least painful way to replace C; drive with an SSD

Is there an easy way of replacing my old HDD with a SSD so I don't have to reinstall my old apps? If not, can someone link to a good site for the latest guide?

It may be worth checking that AHCI is enabled in the BIOS and within Windows if not enable in Windows before enabling within the BIOS.
