Leaves in drainpipe gully

For 6 months of the year we end up with leaves in the drainage gullys which causes problems, we've also just got a puppy and the washing machine empties into this gully (the pipe to the right) and I don't want her to drink the waste water.

I have a single pipe going into another gully with a plastic drain guard but this doesn't stop the leaves getting in either. I appreciate the hole for the drainpipe hasn't been cut correctly so the back isn't flush with the wall but the leaves still get in around the base.

Can anyone recommend a solution?

You need to box in the pipes and gully opening with something more substantial than the plastic box you have.

It will need to be removable as leaves will also get down the pipe from the gutter above and block the gully.

Leaves are a real night mare where we live too and just have to live with it. I find our window cleaners are quite happy to do a gutter and drain pipe clean out every now and again.

Go & buy yourself a concrete gulley surround, (Wickes/B&Q cheaper, around £12) & bed it down, then get a piece metal sheet, cut out the two hole outlets, feed pipes through,& sit on surround.

Did this at my previous place, they lasted 20 years

Edit I don't find many animals drink dirty soapy washing water

Our cat would if it could get to it. We put it fresh water down every day and it'll run outside and start drinking from dirty puddles or where water has collected in a tub I used for cleaning my bike parts .

My cat would never drink tap water, but it would drink the water from the filter jug,rainwater or a puddle.

Must be something in tap water which cats don't like.
