Leaving a MMOG after 18 months

Last night I made the decision to stop playing WoW. I think I just felt let down by the quality of the quests in the expansion

Really? I thought some of the quests in the expansion were absolute genius ... the bombing campaigns, the way they've set up caverns of time.

Hell I even love the lowbie instances like hellfire citadel.

how I love sitting in Nagrand and watching alliance dopes trying to do the trampoline quest without dying :D

I started WOW the week it was released. I got banned after 9 months for using hacks, and I'm really thankful I did. A few of my mates still pay it, and I really pity them, its really not the place for a 30 year old to be imo, many things that one should be doing in real life just never get done.

I think if a lot of people made as much effort in saving/earning money, doing good for themselves and their family/employer in real life, as they do in WOW (hours & hours spent grinding for what?) they would live a really happy and successful life.

But no, there will be millions of youngsters all over the world that have waisted years of their life playing these types of games, and when they finally do have to get up of their arses and do something, they wont have a clue.

hmmm, ive just turned into an old git... sorry

wait for it though mate, im on the same boat only im at the front, soon you will be getting called "uncool" lol

and the strange thing is, when ever i go out with some mates on the weekend, im instantly accused of 'always' going out, and if i dont go out and play some games, i get acused of 'being addicted' lol.

there is no happy middle :(

Make sure you don't have any to leave behind. ;)

When I left the second time, I made a joke on the offical Draenor forum, which got taken way out of context. In come the haters. :p

What's your character called on Draenor? :)

The thing is many of these people enjoy WoW, and they can't find as much enjoyment in things which 'do good for themselves/family/employer'. I understand what you mean about the amount of effort put in but I presume grinding is more fun than e.g. working in the supermarket or whatever.

I'd also take issue with the idea that the time is wasted - doing something you enjoy is rarely wasted time. I spent many years playing the online game Quakeworld, to the detriment of my degree and indeed social life, but I wouldn't say it was necessarily a waste of time because it was just such damn good fun. If someone said to me, would you give up those years of gaming for a better degree and a better job, I'd probably say no (unless the job was vastly superior, obviously).

No matter how or what MMO I play, I always compare it to UO, they always fail in that regard and I don't stay on them long (well not for 5 years anyway).
Ditto. I am playing WoW at the moment but not like I used to play UO. I can level like mad and do quests then suddenly get bored and stop for a week or so. That never happened in UO. Even now, when the gameplay just isn't the same I still want to go back to UO. I think..... maybe just reactivate for a month..... but I have managed to hold off. Even though my house will have fallen and I will need to get my title back (I'm such a snob... but Glorious Lady had a nice ring to it), I'm still tempted :o
