I've just read Jonny Wright's awesome overview sticky here. He mentioned that LED-backlighting was new at the time of writing in 2007. For those who've had the privilege of sampling conventionals and LED-based, I'd love to hear your experience! Please provide model names, especially if ordered from OcUK.

I'm thinking to get one. My main reason is higher gamut for graphic design (first choice), and gaming (second choice). As I only have sight in one eye, score bonus points if anyone can identify a 4:3 ratio higher than 20", but after a losing battle on Google, I think it's a lost cause.

Thanks :-)

P.S. Are there any other members on here with one eye? If any, what screen set-up do you have? E.g. stay 4:3 or go for larger 16:9 and move away from it?

I have had an LED-backlit screen on my laptop for ages. All it offers is a thinner screen with lower power consumption as far as I can tell so don't make it a priority.

Apparently they offer better longevity too but my 4 year old NEC CCFL monitor is still blinding at over half brightness so that extra life seems pointless.

I don't think CCFL's lose brightness, I think they just die after a certain amount of hours, but I'm not sure how many hours this is. I've only come across really old laptops which have dead CCFL's.

LED's do lose brightness over time, but I think it's something like on average of 50000 hours in order to reach 50% brightness (which is something crazy like 10 years). :) If I was going to get an expensive screen, I'd be tempted to get an LEd backlit one if it was a little extra for piece of mind as it shuold last longer (in theory...).
