Hi guys,

So I want to try out some LED bulbs for the first time in my house. I have a 6 bulb fitting that uses 50W GU10 halogen which are far too hot and don't do a particularly great job of lighting up the room (I realise this is probably partly to do with the fitting).

The bulbs also let out a lot of heat and seem to die quite quickly. What would you guys suggest I go with? In terms of wattage, light colour etc.

Thanks in advance :)

IMO LED is no right for bedrooms, too clinical and will not give you a better spread of light.

I think what is happening like a lot of people is you have wired something that no draws 2 - 3 - 4 times as much as a single 40w bulb in and keep blowing the halogen lamps, this is not uncommon, consider fitting something that uses less than 40w and using lamps.

Get some SMD LED off an auction sites for less than £5 each. I'd steer clear of daylight, or cool temps. for the bedroom. You cen get bulbs with 120deg spread.

Thanks for the majority of helpful responses.

I use Philips LED'S in my bedroom which are around 4w each, used warm white and not white versions.

My parents Kitchen I bought these for them:

There are so many different types that's the problem! So I can get 4W warm white bulbs? Are these the best type for a bedroom?

300W of lighting power in the bedroom!!??!!

Yep it's definitely far too much, hence why I need to change something :)

What are SMD LED's? Sorry new to all this.

Thanks guys :)

OK so I have found:

30 SMD Bulbs - 2.5 Watt equivalent to 30W Halogen - 120° angle
48 SMD Bulbs - 3.5 Watt equivalent to 40W Halogen - 120° angle
60 SMD Bulbs - 4.5 Watt equivalent to 50W Halogen - 120° angle

Upon closer inspection I have actually mixed the bulbs I am currently using. I do have some 35Watts installed as I have been using these gradually as the 50Watts die. I do also have a couple of large pictures which ideally I would like to only point one bulb on each of them out of the 6.

What would you guys suggest out of the options? Anything I'm missing?

Thanks :)

Simply led bulbs seem to fairly good from what I have herd, there was a thread around here where people were giving there options on the various LED bulbs.

I put warm white and I found these to fine, at the end of day its personal choice, you could buy one white bulb and see if you like it or not and then use it somewhere which a white version is not going to be a issue, ie WC.
