Hi,

I'm struggling to find an easy of the shelf solution for the following...

I have a hall way which starts at the front door, three bedrooms off it, a bathroom and ends at entrance to living/diner area.

I want the downlighters to come on via the PIR at night time at a low level, say 10/20% power and stay on for one/two minutes. So you walk out of a bedroom and lights on, walk in front door, lights on etc.

Also I'd want the lights to be switched as normal and be dimmable.

I wanted to spec it up, install as much as I could with help from my electrician mate.

Anyone done anything similar?

I know I'll need a pir that can handle a low output.

Thoughts and ideas would be great.

Can't you use the light wave rf dimmers connected to there PIR sensor?

That's exactly what I'm adding today. So when I walk out the bedroom at night the lights ping on.

ahhh nice one Stinky, I will have a look at light wave, cheers. Will yours come on for a set amount of time I guess....how bright?

Will check the nest protects, how bright is it at night? Does it always work, always detects you? thanks FB.

only problem with the lightwave rf stuff is feels like I'm paying for it to be wirelessly controllable but I really don't need that feature for a hall.

You can select low, medium and high light (might require mains for this, mine are on mains). At night then bright is plenty bright enough to go up and down stairs etc.. If you come out of a brightly lit room it isn't that great. The sensor always works, but the lights won't stay on if you hang around for too long. The lights cover maybe 4 to 5 meters diameter. Basically it's perfect for going to the toilet at night with out waking others.

To be honest to get mine to work in the hallway I have a master and a slave socket along with a PIR sensor. The dimmer switches give you the option of how bright you want / need it, and the sensor can be set to turn off after x amount of time with no movement 5 seconds 30 seconds 1 min or 3 mins I think. Then they fade to off.

I didn't know I needed to replace all sockets on the hallway that are linked so I'm expecting the slave to arrive tomorrow. But to connect it all up inc the wifi link come to £160 for the 2 light switches, the wifi link and the motion sensor.

yea thats how i see it.

its pricy but i don't know if you need the wifi link if thats all your adding. as you don't need / want to dimmer remote option
