We're re-doing our bedroom at the moment and considering putting in 6 good quality LED "warm" dimmable downlighters.

I'm wondering if anyone can give me any first hand impressions/advice on LED lighting.

One concern I guess about downlighters in general is how dispersed the light is. eg: If these 6 downlights with light up the room fairly evenly, or will we have 6 defined 'spots'?

Note: Our room is about 5.3m x 3m.

Check the beam angle for the bulbs, the wider the angle the more diffuse the light, narrower will give bright spots

ps. Some of the manufacturers provide lighting design software, megaman do, can just input room dimensions, height of ceiling and play with number, location and model / bulb type of the lights.

Haven't used megaman but i did try one, cant remember which, but it showed the distribution of the light so you could tell brightness in all parts of the room and if it would create spots etc

Megaman offers a free download of DIALux design software, should find a demo of it on youtube.

Check out the ECOLED ZEP range: http://www.ecoledlight.co.uk/led-downlights.asp
There are plenty of satisfied customers over on the Pistonheads Home&Garden section. I ordered 14 ZEP1s on Monday for my parents' bathroom and bedroom refurbishment. They are meant to be properly engineered, a true replacement for halogens, and far superior to Halers units. They are custom-built using the highest grade diodes, and are not just a lamp replacement, but are a full unit with a separate transformer.

I was looking at these - http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/LTFRD12WW.html

Nice thing is they have a cover/lens you can change to alter the beam angle between 25->90 degrees... Which seems a very nice idea!

They're IP66 to so bullet proof (well water proof) :)

If we look at yours which emit 460 lumens, the ones recommended to me output over 20% more!

I've got a 1.5x1m shower cubicle/room to light too, and I suspect I might put a pair of there with 90degree lenses on in there!

^^ Couldn't get it to work (DIALux design software)... So gave up! Just couldn't seem to add any lights as all the databases/options were empty...

An electrician recommended 3x2 (6) LED downlighters for our 5x3M room, so I'll have to assume his recommendation is correct.
