Hey guys, looking at some nice monitors on OCUK site
I want 23 or 24 inch,
have got a max of about £170 to spend
Must be 1920x1080

I like the look of THIS LG 23" E2350V LED monitor, and I like the look of THIS Samsung P2370, my question is is it worth the extra £35 to have LED? I am talking picture quality.

Also, less than the LG yet another inch on the screen is THIS BenQ G2420HDBL 24" LED. Should I go for 23" LG over 24" BenQ? Will there be a noticable quality difference or will they both just look great?

Finally, all these monitors have 5ms response time, I havent Hi-Def gamed with my own monitor so is 5ms fast enough? cos the 2ms 23" and 24" monitors are £180+ and thats a bit out of my range.

What do you think?
Thanks! ;)

I like it. Came from a ViewSonic 19' LCD which cost more than the BenQ at the time I bought it and weighs three times as much!

I game a lot and have no complaints. As with most monitors, you need to fiddle with the settings to get them right. Plenty of info here - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18089775

It is a solid monitor for the price and a bit of a favourite on these forums. :)

IIRC the LED functionality in current monitor technology is used strictly for the purpose of backlighting. Nothing else.

I think it allows a more true and deeper black, but the main benefit is the energy savings and lifespan.

Correct me if I'm wrong please.

You're quite correct. It also allows the screen to be thinner and lighter which is good if you need to port it about a lot or you want to say "look how thin my monitor is!" to all of your mates. The black level is only deeper under the fairly impractical 'dynamic contrast' mode. For all intents and purposes using edge-lit WLED backlighting has very little effect on the black level. The 'temperature' and low-flicker nature of LED backlights can also improve the appearance of whites and light colours - but an overall high luminance CCFL-backlit display can also impress in this regard. The basic advice I would give is that although LED backlighting is desirable, the actual effect on image quality is very minor and you should certainly not add much weight to this 'feature' when deciding on a monitor.

One of the reasons I'd go with an LED is because of the amount of heat they pump out! We have a Sharp Aquos 52" in the living room and not only are the colours amazing, it barely ever gets hot at all!
Even this Acer 19" LCD I have pumps out a lot of heat. It gets hot in here during the summer, and for the sake of a few quid (and having better image quality/saving money), I'm going to go with one less heat source! :D

That is true. The NEC PA241W I reviewed recently was like a small radiator. I'm just glad it had ventilation slits all around the sides and back or things could've been dangerous. ;)
