Led or lcd

Are led screens the same as LCD screens? Not sure what is in my laptop

So you don't need a backlight for an led screen ?

Reason I ask is I've tried a new led screen and the image was very dîm could just make it out.
I'm not to hot on pc's so I thought I might need an LCD screen.

If the correct screen is an led what could make the image dîm.

Ok, I've got it, an led and LCD screen are the same, they are both LCD but lit up by an led.

So a new question, say for instance I have fitted the correct screen but it's dim, is there an invertor to start up the led backlight??
