Just had out lean to single storey extension finished and it has a vaulted / sloped ceiling.

What's the crack on spot lights? I appreciate the halogens are probably a no go, but surely cooler running LEDs are OK?

Anyone confirm what the BRs are?

Thanks

I've just finished a kitchen install in a similar extension and they have LED spots installed on their lean to ceiling. Can't see any reason why you couldn't use halogens but if you're going to put spots in you might as well go LED.

I thought it was heat / fire related (although that does play a part) its actually around the roof insulation. As you have to cut a large amount of Celotex away in order to get the light in and mounted, this leaves the inner roof / underside of the tile exposed and creates cold spots.

I could counter batten the joists, but they've already been plasterboarded...

GHEY!

I need a low profile LED that is airtight with insulation enclosure, and even then it might be risky...

If its vaulted ceiling then you only have the thickness of the rafter as insulation. If fitting halogens you would have to leave this out 100mm around a halogen unit (the hole was 200mm circle) thus creating cold spots when the lights are not on.
Go with LED as there is no heat build up and if you have celotex and have to cut it out for the lights at least you can poke some normal insulation in the hole before fitting the light.

We have just had this on our last job. Building inspector made us cut pockets out for the lights in the celotex. Then the customer changed their mind and had LED units :D
