LED vs LCD

So are you saying a standard lcd would be the better choice? From what your saying it seems like led screens are annoying, and not really suited for web browsing etc?

edit: I've gone for the led backlit version now. Had to order by the 4 o'clock cut off time to have it delivered tommorow. Hopefully it will be great, and I'll let you all know how I get on :)

Both CCFL and LED-lit monitors are LCD.

And both provide the option to turn it off, or in most cases, come with it turned off by default. Which, again, is why it's an irrelevant feature.

Well, coming from my cheapo 20" lcd it's been a fantastic improvement. I still have my cheapo on as a dual setup, so when the splash screen comes up for express gate (which is mainly white) I notice a very significant difference. REALLY nice whites, blacks are very good, but not poo-your-pants good. The point the guys are making is that, although LED monitors have great benefits, they are at heart LCD monitors and as such will have the same inherent problems any TN panel will have, depending on the quality of the panel. So basically, between two identical monitors differing only in backlight tech, the LED version is better (imo).

If you don't need HDMI then go with the LED version. Difference probably isn't that much difference between the two tbh.

I don't doubt it has better whites, but brightness, correct temperature and even the quality of the screens AG coating are far bigger factors on out perception of white than the source of the light. If you want to compare whites you really need to calibrate both monitors to equal brightness and 6500k temerature.

A bit cooler than the correct 6500k is often subjectively better. Just try setting your monitor to something like 8-9000k for a while (Around what native, uncalibrated CRTs were back in the day), then back into sRBG and you see how yellow and dusty correct white will appear.
