Leeds arbitration hearing

Those judgements assume Leeds were a new club because they were sold. Does this apply to any club that is sold. 3 of the top 4 clubs in the premiership have been sold in recent years. What is different in Leeds case?

Possibly the case that those clubs were not in a dire financial situation?

We are also dealing with two seperate footballing bodies. FA and FL. Maybe the 'rules' are different in the Premiership?

Treating Leeds as a new club was just a stick to beat them with and back them into a corner. A club changing hands does not mean it's a new club. The other clubs going into administration were not treated as new clubs.

In the case of Leeds, the company that owned them was dissolved, liquidated, etc . Basically went out of business. So therefore under business law Leeds (newco) are a new company, under the Football League rules that means that they had no right to continue in League One, so the deal was struck. Under duress? Certainly. Legally? People far more qualified than anyone here have ruled that to be so.

The judgement as released, certainly covers all the points in it's 14 pages!

Nor were Leeds treated as a new club previously when it had changed hands. IIANM there's technically been 4 different owners in 5 years.

Correct.

That doesn't affect the club though, just the owning body.

I know they voted on it, I'm saying it should never have happened.

Fair enough, i agree with you there having been at the receiving end of a similar vote in the past. Also took accrington decades to get back into the league after being voted out.

Even if you don't win the playoffs it won't be the end of the world, people like watching a winning team no matter what league they're in, a championship winning season next year in league 1 would arguably be more entertaining than a mid-table finish in the championship.

Wouldn't be as lucrative though, which as much as I dislike it is what is important in football these days.

The judgement makes interesting reading

Lots of legal jargon in the judgement.

but the way I read it...

Leeds appealed to keep the club in Div 1 when under the current rules they should have been demoted to League 2.

Of course every club should fight for it's existence, but it looks like Leeds have got off lightly and the Football League have bent over to accomodate them with the majority of League chairman voting to uphold the exceptional 'gift'.
A lot of the judgement was a con but that part did make interesting reading as it's something that I certainly had never heard been mentioned before and if that was the case I have to wonder what we were appealing against. The 'appeal' we did have with the other league chairmen voting was grossly unfair and I believe that was also stated in the judgement.

Its over now though and if we can get promotion via the playoffs then there is no better way to go up, and to be honest we should be beating all the teams that will be in the playoffs. Another bonus is it keeps the season alive for another few weeks for Leeds fans. I'd have still rather had the points back mind, better for stress levels :p

Well looked like the Karma paid out to Forest, no dodgy vote to protect Doncaster from us in the play-offs now :D Could be a spicy match (if we get to the final!)
