Left 4 Dead 2: freezing after splash screen (the Valve head)

Only started occurring when I replaced my motherboard, and even after re-installing the game and Windows (8.1 Pro, 64bit) it is still a problem.

I really don't know how else to describe the problem as the subject of the thread is as simple as it gets. When it freezes, I have to kill the task.

Old MB: RIVF
New MB: RIVBE

Anyone have any suggestions?

Had that once, a verify on steam i think fixed it.

Game crashes after intro

For some players the game just crashes after the intro has stopped playing.
If they use a workaround to skip the intro, it crashes instantly.

Simply open up a new text document, paste the correct entries for your operating system and save it as "l4d2reg.reg" for example, then just run the .reg file. Observe that this is at your own risk. It's a reg fix floating around the web and while it have fixed the problem for some without creating any other problems I still recommend doing a backup of your registry before trying this.
