Whenever I try play L4D2 my internet slows down completely, then stops altogether. Both while I'm playing it (single player, menu, whatever, just so long as the exe is running) and afterwards (can only reconnect by going to troubleshoot connection, which tells me the DNS server wasn't responding)

It's only on my computer I lose connection, and it's done it on multiple formats beforehand.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Through a BT Homehub v2.0 unfortunately.

There's your problem. Honestly although BT internet connections are reasonably good, their supplied routers are surprisingly bad. I have a netgear and it's much more reliable and is easy to set up and tweak to our needs.

I'd take a look at something like this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-092-BE&groupid=46&catid=1595&subcat=1932

Or a Netgear DG384G from one of OcUK's competitors (OcUK don't appear to sell Netgear routers atm).

Any of the big brand routers should provide you with a stronger and faster Internet connection then that BT supplied rubbish.

I had this problem.

I could get into a game but after 30 seconds or so it would drop out and cut off the internet for 5 mins or so.

Don't know the problem properly, but has something to do with L4D using more info to get server info than usual games, so the router thinks its being attacked.

Not sure if the new Homehub 3 has this problem, give BT a ring and ask them for one?

Parents want the Homehub because of the phone, we had a DG834G before that and it was great. Sucks, I know :(

Run an Ethernet cable from the hub to the 834 and connect to the 834 wireless?

That's what I've done before now, it's pretty easy as well, I think all I needed to do was change the router mode and turn off DHCP.

Indeed, it did it for me back in the L4D1 days too, oddly enough it did used to work on the homehub. Now, I can't connect to any games at all, as soon as I start it the connection drops.

Tried port forwarding, will test in a bit.

Never thought of that. I'll give it a try :D
