February 5, 2008 — Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced a series of content and development releases for its latest title, 2008's best-selling new game property for the PC and Xbox 360, Left 4 Dead (L4D).

The first L4D DLC — dubbed the L4D Survival Pack -- is due for release this spring and introduces a new multiplayer game mode entitled, Survival, plus two complete campaigns for Versus Mode . A Critic's Choice Edition of the game will be heading to retail stores this spring, and will include access to all the content introduced in the L4D: Survival Pack.

In addition, for PC gamers and aspiring developers, the first Left 4 Dead release for the Source Software Development Kit (Source SDK) will allow the creation of custom Left 4 Dead campaigns that will be discoverable via L4D's matchmaking system. The SDK update is also due for release this spring, and is free of charge to all owners of L4D on the PC.

i guess the question would be would you pay for it on the pc?

i wish they would make some levels based on movies :P one set in london like the movie 28 days later would be excellent

i think the problem is tho they have to charge for 360 content so eaither they have to find a way to get it for free on both 360/pc or charge people for it or they will **** a lot of people off if the pc is for free and the 360 aint

TF2 content was free, it won't be on 360 Valve have stated.

The fact is states there that the SDK is free of charge but there is no mention of whether or not the DLC is free or not.

Also I recently saw a screenshot from L4D with a map called Survivor Pit with 2 teams of 6 on it.

If the SDK is free the DLC is useless, as "les gens" will produce a solid and excellent amount of L4D resources on their own without paying for it.

how long to wait just for the 2 other vs maps, no inditcation if survival mode will have new maps or if it will just be the existing 4 with a few tweaks for a new mode.

Sounds all a bit meh for me, i was hoping for an sdk much sooner at least

Not sure if I will pay for the DLC, we'll see if its up to scratch once more details are released. As for the SDK, that will provide infinate content from the community.

i'd bank a lot on it being free tbh

look how successful TF2 is/has been :) each advertised updates gets new users flooding in!
