been playing this since released all fine no crashing however installed a xfi gamer fidelity and the game freezes with the sound looping when i alt tab then back into the game all is ok for a few minutes then it crashes again.

im assuming the xfi gamer is causing this as all was ok before can anyone confirm if this game has problems with this soundcard or anyway to stop sound looping and game freezing?

Try some of the options in the game properties on Steam such as defragging the game and checking it's integrity. It's worked for me in the past where a Steam game would continually crash.

Fix for sound loop crash in the early stages of the game was to set your cpu to play it on 1 core, dunno if it'll be any use now but worth a try!

I get this problem in Vista, but am yet to get it in xp. I'll have a look at my paged pool memory options, however I have 8GB of RAM so there should be enough. How do you change the page pool memory in Vista?

Try running the game in borderless windowed-mode (all in the video options) as this resolved issues with sound stuttering and looping in the game.

i get this problem too, just freezes and loops about a second of sound over and over. then alt tab out and in and it's fine, but i have noticed sometime theres a little notification icon in the system tray and says something about graphics driver error but restarted...

I got the stuttering ingame as soon as I updated my nvidia drivers to the 181.20's. Went back to 178.24 and it was all fine again.

yes my old dual core AMD +3800 wont run any source games when both cores are enabled.
disable one of the cores by right clicking left4dead.exe in task manager --> set affinity ->> and unclick one of the cores
