Bought an inexpensive wireless mouse for my partners work laptop. Seemed to work fine for the first week or so but the left mouse button is now randomly not working. Pointer works fine and right click seems okay so it just seems to affect the left mouse button. Laptop is a Sony Vaio a couple of years old running W10.

Another weird thing is that if you unplug the 2.4 Ghz USB receiver to essentially remove the mouse from the system and carry on using the laptop touch pad, the touch pad also seems to lose the left click ability? Reboot the laptop without the USB receiver plugged in and the touch pad works again. But if you plug the USB receiver back in and the mouse will be detected by Windows again and work, pointer wise then randomly stop the LMB working again a few mins later.

Have tried the mouse in another laptop and there are no issues, so I'm pretty much ruling out a hardware issue. Any ideas on what to try folks?

Thanks in advance for any assistance :)

Sounds like a driver conflict.

See if you can use a different driver for the laptops touch pad.

Have you tried disabling the touch pad when it's not needed via the f button shortcut?

Worth a try.
