This is a rather strange one.
I have a friends Packard Bell MV35 laptop here which he said was randomly cutting out on him. Initially I suspected an overheating issue but I've narrowed it down to something I've never seen before with laptops. It will boot up fine and happily work away doing all sorts of the usual tasks such as browsing the net, word processing, games etc. During all this it doesn't get overly warm at all and the fans kick in when they are supposed to do so keeping the temps 'normal'.
However as soon as you press the left part of the touchpad ( the part which is essentially the left mouse button ) the screen switches off and goes dead. The lights are all still lit on the laptop and the fans still spin but the screen just switches off. I don't mean it goes black, it actually switches completely off. No amount of button pressing anywhere else will bring it back to life, it needs to be cold restarted to work again. If you 'double tap' the actual part of the touchpad which you wipe your finger around to control cursor movement it will work fine and do the job of the left part of the pad. Naturally this isn't ideal.
Just to clarify, the part of the touchpad I'm refering to is shown below by the yellow arrow:-
What form of witchcraft is going on here????!!!!. Anybody got any ideas?.
