Evening all,

hopefully someone can help here before i have to move further afield. Last year we moved away from CA Brightstor as our backup software of choice to Commvault. This has left us with a load of old data tapes that we may need to restore in the future. We agreed with our customers to retain the ability to restore them for 1 year and that is now up. They would still like the ability to restore data from tapes for as long as we have them and i was wondering if anyone had come across a 3rd party company who would have the ability to restore data/files etc from our tapes without us having to carry maintaining hardware and paying software licencing for the CA software. Basically a pay as you go type restore service that the customer can utilise if required.

cheers

Kef

Brightstor doesn't require an ongoing subscription, only for software assurance and support as far as I know?
Certainly Backup Exec doesn't work like that.

I haven't heard of any companies offering 'one off' restores, I imagine they would be quite expensive if they do.

You're really better off just getting a 'backup' server or system which you can just lug around for customers if they need to get stuff off tapes.

Yamahahahahaha is quite correct, Arcserve is a one time purchase, lifetime product. You only need to renew a maintenance contract to be eligible for updates and cheaper new versions by upgrades.

Keep the licence keys and a copy of the media version you are licensed for and you are good to go whenever.

You can use both Backup Exec and Arcserve fully featured with all agents on a 30 day trial anyway.
