I’m not looking for a definitive answer, as I know that, of course, I need proper legal advice.

But I just wondered what the general consensus here might be…

If someone leaves me a share in a property in their will, but I don’t want it, can I say thanks, but no thanks?

There are various options, a variation of the will, giving the property to someone else after it's yours, other stuff. Be aware of creating yourself a tax liability. But simply put, you can "disclaim" it in various ways, (like giving it to me, for example) ;)

EDIT, here's a link to the matter:

Why don’t you want it? Assuming the property is sold take the money and redistribute it as you see fit. Or if it’s the whole thing do the same or give it away.

Thanks everyone, that’s more helpful than you will know. Much appreciated.

(it’s a long story why I don’t want it)
