I bought an item in December from ebay from a UK based business seller (which also has its own website), it has developed a fault, the seller is quoting a 90 day warranty.
I understand that I have rights under the consumer rights act, but am interested in the warranty.

I have googled this and cannot find a definitive answer.
I just wanted to know if it was legal to offer only a 90 day warranty on brand new goods ?
I was under the belief that 12 months was minimum.

Be a bit more specific, what did you buy and where from?

It's relevant because if you ordered something from China via Aliexpress (as an example), you'd only get whatever warranty they are offering as they aren't covered by UK trade laws.

I didn't think there was any legal requirement to provide any warranty - a warranty being something distinctly different from the protections offered to you by the CRA, with the associated 6 month assumption of fault etc.

Just for clarity it was brand new, not refurbished, wasn't an auction. as far as I know the seller is legit, they have a website have been operating for a number of years (have bought from them in the past)
The item is a replacement screen for a macbook

I've just had a quick look and it seems a lot of the ebay sellers are only offering 30 or 90 days warranty on brand new LCD screens/panels

From what i've gleamed, you cannot buy a legit replacement screen for a macbook, apple do not sell macbook screens.

Shiny :p

It is a counterfeit (even if it is made in the same factory as the real one).

So infact you can claim a refund on that basis i think.

That depends on whether it was sold as a genuine Apple part or not - if it was accurately advertised as a 3rd party replacement then no issues there.
